Other Ways to Pay

Overview

This page gives information on the various ways you can make you Council Tax payments. The Council Tax financial year is from 1 April to 31 March.

The total amount due will be payable in 10 monthly instalments. The instalment date will be shown on your bill. This is the date your payment must reach your Council Tax account.

If you wish to pay annually, half yearly or quarterly - Payment must be made when the first instalment becomes due.

Direct Debit

You will receive a Direct Debit form with your bill (if you don't already pay by this method). The Direct Debit form is available to print.

We have four payment dates 1, 8, 15 and 21 of each month.

Direct Debits start in April and finish in January each year.

Debit or Credit Card

You can pay by Maestro, Solo, Delta, Mastercard and Visa.

By phone on 01795 417850.

Or use our automated phone payment service by calling 01795 417766.

Online: Pay your council tax online.

Your Bank's Internet services: - Please remember to quote your Account Number.

Cash

We have increased the number of outlets that you can pay by cash. However, you will need a Payment Card. If you need a card please contact our Customer Service Centre on 01795 417850.

Local PayPoint Outlets - Find your nearest outlet.

Local Post Offices - Find your nearest Post Office.

Please note that we cannot accept cash as payment at any council office.

Cheque

Cheques can be sent to Swale Borough Council at Sittingbourne. Please make your cheque payable to 'Swale Borough Council' and put your account number on the back.

Cheques can also be used to pay your Council Tax at the Post Office - You will need a Payment Card.

Standing Order

You can arrange for your bank to send your payments directly from your bank account. The Standing Order form is available to print.

You will need the following information:-

Please quote your Council Tax Account Reference Number. This will start with a 3, 4, 5 or 6.

Payments can take 5 working days to reach Swale Borough Council so please ensure your payment is made in time to reach your account.

Post Office

Payments can be made at the Post Office by payment card or using the Transcash system. Our account number is 319 5228.

Please quote your name, address and Council Tax Account Number.

The Post Office will make a charge for using the 'Transcash' system.

Late Payments

You have a legal right to pay by instalments. However, this will be forfeited should you fail to pay.
